Topic: What is the biggest mistake you've made in a relationship?

from here

Taking a strange man up to her hotel room was not such a good idea some would say, but with youth, there is cocky arrogance. The guy was harmless, Maggie surmised as she glanced at him out of the corner of her eye at Steve, who seemed perfectly all right with their little rendezvous up to her hotel room. He didn’t seem to mind that a little more than a few days ago, she had been a Mrs. and not a Ms. . Her mother would have heart failure about the whole marriage and annulment business, but this, would flat out kill her. She snort giggled in amusement over the thought as she kicked off her shoes. Her mother was sturdier than she let on and was not as hard on the discipline as she pretended to be in front of the neighbors. As long as grades were kept up and no neighbors talked, her mother was happy to hear that Maggie did confession once a week, assuming the worst that she did was “think” about kissing a boy.

“So, what is your last name if it isn’t Whistler, Maggie?” Steve would start slow, but he would start now. She was either drunk or hard of hearing if she could not hear him cocking his gun.

“Oh, it’s Francis, and yours is what again,” Maggie asked, dropping her purse onto the bed. She had to try again, though her earlier attempts at getting a last name out of Steve were unsuccessful.

“It’s still just Steve.”

“Oh, right, right …say, what are you doing? What’s with the …?” Maggie had turned around to face Steve while her hands were fumbling to undo the clasp of her dress at the base of her neck. In front of her, the guy she knew as Steve was holding a gun straight at her.

Marriage, now that was a big relationship mistake. While taking this guy up to the hotel room was not of the same caliber, it sure was a hell of a fuck up on her part.

Tbc…

Loud revelers, chaos, and the party atmosphere had made her do it –she kissed Steve. Eventually, they had wandered away from the main casino area, finally. She hadn’t been back to the room for hours, even though there was a niggling feeling that she should.

“Come on Steve, there’s more where that came from,” Maggie laughed as they pulled away from a kiss. With drunken determination, Maggie grabbed Steve’s hand and pulled him into the elevator.

Steve studied the elevator with all due seriousness, all the while, he held onto Maggie, ever remembering to play the part of the good one-night stand. Hands roamed as he recalled going up this elevator less than twelve hours ago to finish a cleanup job. A hit man had botched their job on a man, who had recently been made persona non grata, with some loan sharks, named Jerry Whistler.

“Oooh, guess what I got!” Maggie fished around in her purse and pulled out a tiny bottle of Vodka.

“Always come prepared, I say. I think I put it in there after the Elvis wedding.” She winked and handed over the bottle to Steve.

Blink.

“Excuse me, but did you just say you are married?”

Laughter from Maggie.

“Well, not really, silly. It was fixed the next day and while we mated like bunnies before the ceremony, we didn’t actually consummate anything afterward. I think marriage scared the Bajeebus out of us both. What a mood killer that was, I tell you. Ewe…I almost became a Mrs. Whistler. Can you imagine the jokes? Any kids I had …Ha, I’d be Whistler’s Mother!” A small joke on the famous painting, as Maggie was anything but the picture of perfect propriety.

“Whistler, you say?” Now Steve as all ears and tensed, though appearing calm, outwardly.

“Yeah, but he’s gone now. He took off yesterday, I think. Something about seeing a man about a horse …just kidding …I wished you a Happy New Year, didn’t I?”

“Yes, you did.” This changed things considerably. Depending on the amount of information that he could pull out of her before he finished, Maggie might live. There was still some hope of getting some sex out of this if Maggie would just keep babbling. He’d just let her talk and spill. As much as he would like to take her right now, drunk and unaware people usually were more truthful. That gave him pause to think. Was she really that flighty? Could this all be an act; was she was out to kill him the first chance she got?

He casually sniffed the bottle after opening and continued to let Maggie chatter.

“He was ok guy ...like to gamble way too much, but it’s always something you know?” Maggie asked as they got out of the elevator and walked toward her door. This Steve was a great kisser if the one they shared at Midnight, as the year 2000 was rung in, was any indicator.

“Yeah, I know,” Steve casually replied in an overly deadpan voice. While he watched Maggie’s oblivious backside as the door opened, Steve patted the left side of his jacket, where his gun was hidden.

Maggie vs. Reality *age 9*

“It’s my reality and I’ll do with it what I want to do with it, Michael Jacob-Francis. They do exist, you’ll see.”

Maggie grinned and looked over to her brother. He had had grown impatient as they lay flat on their stomachs, covered in camouflage in their backyard. Faeries were real. She just knew it. Now why they would want to hang out in her backyard, of all places, in Atlantic City, she couldn’t quite work out – but she had to start somewhere!

Covered with twigs and leaves, they waited there until they were both called in for lunch.

They never did see any faeries, but they did overhear their neighbors going at it with lovey-dovey noises, which caused them no end of amusement.
